Wheel Throwing with Mindfulness & Somatic Awareness

Open to all levels, this mixed-level 8 week class meets you where you are. Foundational ceramic techniques such as centering, pulling, shaping, and trimming will be taught and refined. More experienced students are supported in expanding their forms, troubleshooting challenges, and developing a more intentional approach to their work. All levels will learn to integrate mindfulness skills and somatic practices. This unique Grounded Earth VT class goes behind the basics, and centers the maker as much as the clay. Led by Sheilagh Smith LCMHC, you’ll be provided technical instruction that integrates mindfulness and somatic awareness practices to support focus, reduce unnecessary tension, and build a more compassionate relationship with the learning process. Working at the wheel often brings up frustration, self-judgment, and moments of flow—this class creates space to work with all of it. This is not a therapy group, but a supportive learning environment that values curiosity, presence, and process as much as finished pieces. As a student you will also have: a designated shelf space in the studio to store your work, and access to generous open studio hours to practice in addition to the weekly 2.5 hour class. One 25lb bag of clay will be provided. By the end of the session, students will have strengthened their technical skills, developed a more embodied approach to working with clay, and created a body of functional or exploratory work.

Sliding scale: $450-$600
